Tomahawk School District - Extra-Curricular Activities

We encourage students to become involved in activities outside the classroom. In this way, students learn to budget time wisely, learn how to work well with others, and develop social skills.

Fifth grade students who are selected after an application process is completed, may participate in the Hatchet Student Team (Internal Safety Patrol).

Fifth grade students who are selected may participate in Yearbook or Safety Patrol.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in intramural programs. Elementary students may participate in a wide variety of intramural activities which include boys’ and girls’ basketball, flag football, softball, volleyball, swim club, and wrestling. In the past, these activities have occurred before or after school.

Safety Patrol

At the end of 4th grade, students are eligible to file an application to be on safety patrol. The application requires them to write an essay indicating why they want to be on Safety Patrol and also requires the signature of a parent and two staff members who recommend them. The students who are selected receive a training course covering safety patrol duties and requirements. Each student serves on patrol one or more days per week, both before and after school. Although students need to have their own transportation to school, they are able to ride the bus home.

Students on safety patrol must show respect for their school, teachers, and other students at all times. They must also be in good academic standing and maintain a good attendance record. Students who remain in good standing may participate in a winter and end of the year reward activity.

Elementary Student Council provides leadership in developing positive student attitudes toward all aspects of education, both in and out of the classroom. Our Student Council is composed of student representatives from 5th grade. The goal of our Student Council is to help develop skills in peer leadership and volunteerism, as well as promote school spirit, and a sense of pride in our school and community.

TES Student Council works throughout the school year to plan and carry out school spirit and fundraising events to support fellow students, staff, and community members. Through volunteerism, our members build character, responsibility, teamwork, and personal connections within our local community.

Belonging to a particular group or organization is an honor and commitment. Those students participating in Student Council are expected to be role models for their classmates and other students within the Elementary School. Members are required to attend monthly meetings and maintain good academic status with no major discipline referrals.
