Youth Apprenticeship (YA) is a unique opportunity for juniors and seniors to start preparing for a career while still in high school.

The Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship program integrates school-based and work-based learning. It is designed for high school students who want hands-on learning in an occupational area at a work site along with classroom instruction. Students accepted into an approved Youth Apprenticeship program will continue taking classes at their high school while working as an apprentice at a participating business.
Students:

Earn a paycheck while learning from skilled professionals

Receive high school credit for your YA on-site learning (.5 credit per semester)

Experience first-hand connections between high school education and real-life work

Increase career awareness and improve future employability

Receive a state-issued Certificate of Occupational Proficiency which is recognized by employers

Develop the necessary skills needed for successful entry-level employment

Develop a network of contacts in your career field

Build up your resume with real-world, on-the-job experience
Student Responsibilities:

Complete 450 hours of work-based learning MINIMUM for a one-year program (this includes summer hours). This is for Juniors or Seniors

Complete 900 hours of work-based learning MINIMUM for a two-year program (this includes summer hours). This is for Juniors only who plan to do YA their Junior and Senior Year

Successfully complete two semesters of related classroom instruction (CTE or technical college courses) per year.
